Celebrating Its 15th Anniversary

Dear friends of the Slovene Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra,

The 2008/09 concert season marks the 15th anniversary of the Slovene Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra and the 10th anniversary of our Society. The ensemble was established in 1993, and began to function as a completely independent organisation and legal entity six years later. During this time we have invited several acclaimed Slovene and foreign guest soloists to join us at our concerts. As part of the Harmony of the Spheres series the orchestra will perform with Stefan Dohr, principle horn of the Berlin Philharmonic, Andrej Žust, principle horn of the Slovenian Philharmonic, cellist Andrej Petrac and violinist Miran Kolbl, both past members of our orchestra, countertenor Markus Forster, as well as our regular guest and friend mezzosoprano Mirjam Kalin.

As part of either our regular subscription series or festivals at which we will perform, the orchestra will give concerts with guest performances by Irena Grafenauer, Enrico Dindo, Markus Forster, Oleg Bugaev and Sarah Chang. The concert season will be crowned by the premiere performance of Archifonia, a composition by composer and academic Lojze Lebic. This year our programme for the Harmony of the Spheres series, which brings together music and the visual arts, is dedicated to Viennese Classicism, French Baroque music and prominent Czech masters, while a special evening will be devoted to Slovene music. Along with the rest of the international music world, we shall pay tribute to the anniversaries of some of the great composers, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the death of Joseph Hayden, the 250th anniversary of the death of Georg Friedrich Händel, and the 200th anniversary of birth of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
